Why Popcorn Day Is So Special

Popcorn day is celebrated by loads of American households, so this year to make it that bit more special, send out some free e-cards to your friends and family alike.

The best thing about free e-cards, is obviously that they are totally free to personalize and send. But not only this, you can send them anywhere you want, and there will never be extra costs incurred. As long as you and your recipient are connected to the internet you are set to go, this means you can send an e-card from England to America totally for free.

Though popcorn may seem like a contemporary phenomenon, archaeologists have found remains of pottery proved to be ancient popcorn poppers in the region of the Andes once inhabited by pre-Inca civilizations.

Other studies have led to the conclusions that corn, or maize as the Native Americans knew it, was being cultivated by the Maya, Aztec, and Inca tribes in Central America more than five thousand years ago and in Ontario, Canada before 1200 C.E.

The oldest corn remnant discovered so far was a pollen fossil dating back approximately 80,000 years. When Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas, he was exposed to corn by the Native Americans, and introduced it to Spain.

Its popularity there quickly spread throughout Europe and the rest of the world. So, considering the centuries that this versatile food has existed, it's no wonder that Americans reportedly eat more than 1 billion pounds of popcorn a year!

Celebrate National Popcorn Day by making some popcorn. Try to do it the old-fashioned way, with an air-popper or a pot on the stove instead of the microwave variety. If you've never done this before, you may find a new taste you love, or discover how much you appreciate the convenience of modern technology!

Add some flavor to your day and your snack by sprinkling some seasoning or finely grated cheese directly on the warm popcorn or by mixing it in with the melted butter as a delicious topping.

Or be nice to your sweet tooth and make some caramel corn. All of these activities can and should be shared with friends and loved ones of all ages. And for all you health-conscious adults, this whole grain maize snack is one you can definitely live with loving!

The majority of the world's popcorn is grown in these midwestern states of the United States: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, and Ohio.

The astounding 1 billion pounds of popcorn a year breaks down to 63 quarts per each American man, woman, and child. About 70 percent of this popcorn is eaten at home.

Millions of people send free e-cards annually, I to send hundreds. Free e-cards are also very eco friendly as no trees ever need to be felled. Free e-cards come in so many different categories and genres, so you can celebrate a birthday, or mourn a death.

They make it so easy to communicate with friends around the world, and as e-cards take over the card market, it will start to become uncommon not to be receiving at least one or two a year.
