The pregnancy pillow was created to help in alleviating the lack of comfort in sleep and other medical problems faced by an expectant mother trying to sleep. If you have experienced the pains and joys that childbirth brings will appreciate the benefits of a good pillow.

It is hard for one to get any sleep in any of the usual positions - on her back, or one her side, and most definitely she cannot sleep on her stomach. The progressive growth of the baby and the uterus causes problems for the woman as sleeps. Sleeping on your side is not only uncomfortable, but may cause medical problems as well. Sleeping this way puts all the weight of the baby and the uterus on a mother's back, intestines and inferior vena cava. This may cause backaches, poor digestion, swelling of the extremities, hemorrhoids, reduced circulation, breathing difficulties and the lowering of blood pressure. It is common for mothers going thru pregnancy to spin and turn while searching for the best position to sleep. Also, when she has to go to the bathroom this causes the system to go haywire, which leads to more of adjustments and shifting to get comfortable. The pregnancy pillow was engineered with this in mind.

It is best to be used starting the second trimester. It is common for mothers to spin and turn while searching for the best position to sleep. Also, when she has to go to the bathroom this causes the system to go haywire, which leads to more of adjustments and shifting to get comfortable. Medical experts agree that it may be better pregnancy patients to sleep on their left side, allowing for the best circulation.

Before the it was invented, people tried to find a way to let common bed pillows relieve them. Now, there are different types of pregnancy pillows in the market that support the stomach and lower back. They are also designed to help to straighten the hips. This will help relieve stress of pregnancy -- something a person undergoing pregnancy, will like. They are also used as nursing pillows after the baby is born. There are four general types:

* The body pillow: This consists of a velcro attaching two pillows. This type supports both the stomach and the lower back at simultaneously while the pregnant mother sleeps on her left side in between the pillows.

* The wedge: This pillow is "wedged" under the belly to provide lower back support and pressure relief.

* The full-length pillow: This pillow is 5 feet and support the back, belly and legs. This is the most common sold in any store with pillows.

* The Bean: This is made in the shape of a kidney bean. You wrap from under the stomach to between the knees
