Are you looking to add some great looking old signs to your model train display, but are just not sure how to do so? Have you noticed the ones that some stores have hanging around town and thought to yourself how great those would look if you could just shrink them down? Well, now you can!

The easiest way to go about getting these signs is to cut them out of a magazine that has them in the size you are looking for. You can then weather them, age them and then attach them to your buildings or wherever you want. However, what do you do if you cannot find any in a magazine that suits your fancy? Your next step is to go to the Internet.

On the Internet, you can find a great deal of people that deal just in old signs. If you can right-click on the pictures and save them then you can easily get the signs you need. Download all the pictures that you will want to your computer. Find out what size they are and then you can either shrink them or blow them up to match the scale you are looking to match. Once you do this, you should print them with a very high quality printer like the ones that are used at a quick copy place.

Save your modified pictures to a CD, DVD, or flash drive and pay a visit to your local quick copy store. Let them know that you are looking for high quality prints and also let them know they will not be for sale. Some of these stores prohibit reproduction of copyright material. Have them place as many of the photos onto one sheet as they can. This will save you a bunch of money in the long run. Also make sure that they use some sort of coated paper to get the best look possible.

Once you have your signs printed out you are ready to add them to your buildings. Get creative with your placement. As you know, many signs are usually hung wherever someone can find a spare spot. Another thing that you might want to keep in mind when you are searching for your signs: if you are unsure how your drink machines, gas pumps or other such nostalgic touch should look, you will probably be able to get a picture of these on the Internet sites where you first found your signs. This will help you to maintain as much accuracy as you possibly can.

Keeping your train set dated is very easy to do and can be quite fun. You can make it look like it came straight out of the 1920s or as new as can be. It may take a little bit of research and some ingenuity, but you will soon be running your railroad in historical style. Remember all the possible touches, such as your signs and machines as well as cars and even people can make the biggest difference in the world.
