Sheffield is a city in south yorkshire that boasts a population of of 525 800. recently, Sheffield has been extensively redeveloped and now boasts some beautiful fashionable buildings, containing the Millennium Galleries.

The Sheffield area has been occupied sinceat least the last ice age. although, it was throughout the eighteenth century with the birth of the steel works, that the city really grew. Indeed, the town was named as a borough in 1843 & granted city status in 1893.
In the early 1970s, many of the city's steel works were shut thanks to world wide competition. although this caused massive unemployment, Sheffield was later revitalised & it's now a popular, state-of-the-art city that is well-known for its music, marvellous music & amazing park spaces.
You will find loads of excellent activities to do in Sheffield. In fact, the city boasts some excellent museums & galleries, which are well worth visiting. These include the fantastic graves gallery, which has some great artwork by artists for instance Cezanne, Turner & Sam taylor-wood. It also hosts regular touring exhibitions.

Sheffield has many to offer fans of shopping. the city is home to meadowhall, which is a massive mall with over 240 shops. The mall was opened in 1990 & was one of the first out-of-town shopping malls in britain.
Inspite of the cost, Sheffield city centre boasts some wonderful shops, too. in actual fact, you will find everything there, from high-street shops love new look, to unusual independent shops.
Sheffield is renowned for its spectacular art gallery, so its visitors are never disappointed. whether you would prefer to sip a cocktail in one of the city's vip cocktail bars or a speedy pint of cask ale in one of its rustic inns, you'll find things for everyone to enjoy in this city.
In addition to these watering holes, Sheffield also boasts a few wonderful nightclubs & live music venues. These include the leadmill & the Red House.
Sheffield boasts great road links & can be easily reached from most major british cities. as well as this, the city is well served by rail, with regular trains running from Sheffield railway station to a wide range of locations throughout great britain.
There is also an airport close by, Doncaster Sheffield Airport. The airport is placed 18 miles from the city centre & is served mainly by cheaper airlines, including Thomsonfly.
