If you're looking to improve your handicap, look no further than a good set of golf clubs. An excellent set of clubs, personalized to your needs, will take strokes off of your game faster than you could ever imagine. The trouble is, many of you have probably noticed that many new and "breakthrough" products have come onto the market lately to cash in on the idea that people want to constantly improve their golf games. While many of these products may be worthwhile, many are simply snake oil products that are designed to get you excited about a set of golf clubs that really isn't any more revolutionary than the set next to it that is half the price. Shop carefully for your clubs.

Before you start going out buying new golf club sets and other products, ensure that you're playing at a level of play that would get you some benefit out of the new club. If you lack in the basic concepts of a golf swing, perhaps your money should be better spent taking golf lessons instead of in the pro shop drooling over the latest and greatest gadgets. Also ensure that when you're exercising, exercise muscles that will strengthen your game and improve your swing.

So, what golf clubs are going to be necessary for you to actually purchase? Let's keep it simple: you're going to need a driver, a 3 wood, a 5 wood, and a god set of irons including a putter. In the rules of golf you're not supposed to have more than 14 clubs in your golf bag, however when you're first starting out feel free to have as many clubs as you want and simply experiment with what works for you. Again, this comes down the idea of not bogging yourself down with specifics when you should be simply trying to improve your golf game one step at a time.

For example: One of your best golf clubs is going to be the venerable 3 wood. This club is going to be the basis for most of the rest of your golf bag, so choose this wisely. This does not mean that you should go out and simply buy the first club you see, or conversely, the most expensive club you see. Your 3 wood should be chosen only after you spend time trying out different types of woods that fit your needs. Then, and only then, can you really feel confident about buying that particular club. While I use the example of a 3 wood, you should use this guide to help you select any club in your bag, including your putter. Don't forget about just how important your putter is in your game.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article about golf clubs.
