Vauxhall, Fiercely Fighting The Competition

The cars in Vauxhall dealers today are certainly focussed towards the more budget end of the market. Increasingly however, car manufacturers in the Far East have been able to bring cars to the market that fulfil the budget criteria far more effectively than Vauxhall. This has meant that the company has to produce vehicles that are not only cost effective, but stylish enough to quell the rising competition from far eastern manufacturers. This has meant that the cars present in Vauxhall dealers must be above all, competitive.

In terms of small cars Vauxhall have marketed the Corsa for a number of years, competition wise, it must stand up to the Ford Fiesta and Nissan Micra, as well as other small cars available on the market. While the Corsa is a popular model thanks to dealers giving insurance deals with purchases as well as financial credit schemes it is still facing a tough sales battle. However, it must compete in one of the most hotly contested sectors in the motoring industry; small cars must not only be affordable, but must be attractive to younger drivers, fuel efficient and large enough to carry four adults whilst keeping an aesthetic appeal. With so many cars in the sector such as the Fiat 500, the Renault Clio and the Peugeot 206, this is one of the major battlefields for dealers.

The small city run around is definitely a popular sector, nearly as popular however is the small family car market. Vauxhall dealers have the Astra in this classification and have attempted to market this in a way that attracts drivers who love the driving experience. With a panoramic windscreen it is now promoted as a touring car as well as a family run around. Competition in this sector is once again fierce, the Audi A3 and Peugeot 307 are both competitors whilst rivals Ford have the Focus, regarded to be one of the country's most popular cars. Ultimately in this part of the market, a focus on family comfort and fuel economy is required to produce a car that flies from the forecourts of dealers.

Another hotly contested car classification is the large family/executive car. Vauxhall dealers are currently peddling the newest of the cars in the range, the Insignia. This is a radically designed car that is a step away from past chassis and model designs. In terms of competition, Ford's Mondeo and Peugeot's 406 can be deemed the closest rivals in terms of price but in this sector there are more costly cars such as the BMW 5 and 6 Series, the Mercedes C Class and the Audi A6 and A8. While these German cars tend to set the benchmark for this part of the market, through effective design and development it will be possible for Vauxhall to capture the budget end of this sector.

MPVs have been popular with larger families now for over a decade. The archetypal model was the Renault Espace but in the modern era the Vauxhall Meriva and Zafira have done much to lead the sector in terms of development and popularity. To succeed in this sector, having a focus upon accommodating family needs and ensuring all passengers are comfortable will result in a successful car.

These models do not make up the entirety of the range present on the forecourts of dealers. They do show however that Vauxhall are attempting to remain at the cutting edge in a motoring industry that is more cutthroat than ever.
