The Truth About Diet and Skin Acne

The skin is the largest organ of the body. It is an anatomical barrier from pathogens or those elements that cause diseases between the internal and external environment in bodily defense. It is also largely an aesthetic criterion in determining a persons attractiveness. We usually label a person beautiful if they have blemish free skin. Even if they do not have great features, we would still rank them as beautiful if they are wrapped in radiant and glowing skin. So how do we take care of our skin? What does it take to keep a baby smooth skin even up to our 40s without botox?

One of the most debatable topics when it comes to causes of acne is whether there is a direct link between a persons diet and acne. It has been reported that oily and fatty foods such as junk food, chocolates, chili and sweets are the main causes of acne. Contrary to popular belief, diet does not cause skin acne at all. Recent studies show that while diet is important for improving raw materials for healthy skin, greasy or sugary goods do not cause acne. This is according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Furthermore, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association posited, diet plays no role in acne treatment in most patients even large amounts of certain foods have not clinically exacerbated acne.

This is definitely great news for the chocoholics. Studies show that chocolates do not cause pimples at all. In fact, if you want to munch on some fries, candy and potato chips, you can do so without the worry about zits invading your face the following day. While eating oily food is not beneficial to the health, pimples are not one of them. This is possibly the biggest myth about acne causes.

The real acne causes are the build up of dead skin cells inside the pore, excess skin oil called sebum and acne causing bacteria. These three are not factors triggered by the food that we eat. Excessive production of sebum is often caused by overactive sebaceous glands which is common among teenagers. Oily skin is not necessarily a problem. In fact, if you have oily skin you are less likely prone to crows feet and wrinkling since oil helps keep moisture locked into the epidermis. You just need to make sure you make a habit of cleansing your skin with mild cleanser. In most cases the tendency to oily skin is hereditary. If your parents have oily skin and had acne problems during their younger years, you probably got it from them.

The best way to prevent acne is proper hygiene and a consistent routine in caring for your skin. This includes a habit of washing the face before sleeping, applying toner and moisturizer. It would also pay if you research other acne causes and preventive measures. Likewise, seeking the dermatologists advice is wise so they can give what formula works best for you. Having a beautiful skin is not that tough. It just needs extra effort and proper medication.
