The teenage girls these days just have no idea they're born. Regardless of class, status or familial wealth, they still expect to have everything. From a young age, these girls have rooms that are kitted out with pink plastic that has been moulded into TV's fancy bedroom furniture, every possible toy they could want and all the gadgets that make them feel older beyond their years such as DVD players, Sky TV and mobile phones.
This never changes as they get older either. Young girls go through their lives expecting Daddy to hand them everything on a plate. A flutter of the eyelashes and a whimper that threatens to turn into a full blown tantrum frequently has Daddy turning to the overdraft or bank loan application forms to keep his little darling happy.
The latest craze for young girls that has been brought to us by the good old Americans is the high school prom. If it wasn't for all those hideous American sitcoms that our kids are fed on a daily basis they would have no idea of such events. There is no teenage programme from the States that does not glorify the annual high school prom. Girls are dressed up to the nines and Daddy employs chauffeur car hire for their little darlings to ferry them backwards and forwards.
Things are no different in the UK now. Despite a growing recession, kids still want that once a year treat of a prom, complete with dress, corsage, date and chauffeur car hire.
So girls, let's face it, it's all about the dress, no? Planning takes months because it has to be just right. You have to do some investigations to try and ascertain exactly what the competition are wearing so that you can outdo them. You are essentially aiming for something that has a little edge of sex appeal - it has to be tasteful though, tasteful enough for Daddy not to notice but to give the boys a little idea.
The dress should be of a colour that is more girlish than garish but also sophisticated, so canary yellow with a cerise pink ruffle is not to be recommended unless you intend to skip out early to attend a carnival. Black is always a good option, particularly if you are carrying a few extra pounds, but you have to make the design something stunning that will stand out from all the other little black dresses in the room.
Once the dress is sorted, the corsage is fairly easy as the choice is limited. Much more difficult is the accessories to your outfit. Jewellery should be tasteful not cheap looking, it should be delicate not chunky. No point in wearing a delicate corsage and a rope of chunky great beads if you want to make the right impression.
Last but not least comes the transport. Chauffeur car hire is an important, and probably the most expensive, part of a prom for the parents. There are probably no more than five top cars that could be chosen and by far the favourite chauffeur car hire to be used during prom time would have to be the stretch limousine. The only saving grace for the fathers in all of this is that they can club together and hire a limousine to run around and collect all their little high school beauty queens and take them to their moment of glory at a reduced rate to each Daddy.
