Manchester is a city in the north west of britain. It was given city status in 1853 & now has a sizable population of over 450,000. Manchester is the third largest conurbation in england & its also the third most popular city for foreign tourists to visit.
Manchester initially came to prominence during the Industrial Revolution, which is when the city became the world leader in production and textile manufacture. the city is proud of its industrial history & a number of the mills that were used during this time have been converted into offices and flats.
The city is also renowned for its commerce, science and technology. It has three universities & is renowned as the birthplace of the Baby computer, which changed the face of modern computing.
Even though the city still has many impressive Victorian buildings such as the town hall & Central Library, it also boasts lots of hard buildings. many of these structures were built after the city was hit by a terrorist bomb in 1996.
Manchester has plenty of stuff to do, containing sometimes exciting galleries & museums, which are truly fun to explore.
These include the museum of science & industry, which tells the history of Manchester's rich industrial past. The museum holds touring exhibits too, & recently hosted the famous bodyworlds exhibit. The city's perfect art galleries include the nexus gallery, which boasts some stunning artwork.

Manchester is well known for its art gallery and it attracts many partygoers to its numerous night clubs, pubs and wine bars.
