Any place of business that does a great deal of legal binding might want to consider the different options that are available to them. Even a business that only binds a few legal-sized documents per week should at least know that the binding machine they invest in can handle 14 page-size documents. In any case, there are many options available for legal-size binding, including the following:
Plastic Comb Binding - This is the most widespread legal binding process, which uses plastic combs that can be easily ordered to keep on hand in any legal office. The plastic combs come in a variety of colors, but black is the most common. The different sizes of legal binding combs include the Tamerica Durabind 242 Legal Sized Plastic Comb Binding Machine, the Akiles CombMac and the Akiles Combo Machines, which bind either wire or plastic combs. If the plastic comb binding machine is not long enough to punch the legal-size documents, you may still even be able to bind the documents. For more information about plastic comb binding options, go to mybinding.com.
Spiral Coil Binding This is one of the most affordable ways to bind legal documents. The spiral coil binding material comes in practically any length and come in approximately 60 different colors. Legal-size documents need to be bound with 15-long spiral coil, so there will be enough the crimp the books at either end. One consideration to keep in mind is that some spiral coil binding machines cannot actually punch 14 legal-size documents. The Akiles CoilMac, CoilMac ECI and CoilMac EPI, however, allow users to flip their books over to punch legal documents, as well as any other documents that are longer than 12.
Twin Loop Wire Binding - All wire binding machines can process legal-size documents, but twin loop wire does not always come in 14 lengths. Luckily, mybinding.com carries custom length wire that can be cut to practically any length. For the element to match the punching pattern on the document, though, users will first need to punch one legal-size document and count the number of holes. Then its simply a matter of ordering the twin loop wire cut to the exact number of holes needed.
Velobind Unlike many of the other binding machines on the market, the GBC Velobind Hot Knife binding system is ready to bind legal-size documents out of the box. They manufacture legal-size, 1-thick Black Velobind strips that can be used in the Velobind System One, Velobind System Two and Velobind System 3 Binding Machines. It is important to consider, though, that these strips are only available for books up to 1-thick. Plastic comb binding may be a better option for binding a document that is larger than 1-thick.
These are the four primary options for binding legal sized documents. Legal-size binding supplies are not readily available for thermal binding and Unibind machines. One of these options should, however, provide the right look and feel for any business legal binding needs.
