Solving the Wrapping Problem With Roll Laminating Film

The headaches of working in a school are worth it for the rewards, but one headache that can be avoided is incorrectly wrapping laminating film around the rollers of a laminating machine. This can create a huge disarray in the laminating area, but it can be solved without too much trouble. There are a few easy-to-follow steps to follow in order to have that lumbering machine working like normal again.
The first piece of advice that anyone should remember when they find their laminating machine jammed is not to freak out, because the machine should be fine. The worse thing someone could do would be to attempt to scour the film with a knife to un-jam the machine while it’s running or something else drastic. The best thing to do is to simply turn off the machine and put those sharp objects away. A regular pair of scissors should be used to cut the excess materials off before they reach the roller, but only once the machine is completely turned off. It’s often best to remove the film from the rollers while they’re still hot, as well. The rollers themselves should not come in contact with anything sharp, though.

Now it’s time to do something about the residue that’s still left on the rollers. Leaving this residue will cause it to stick to any new laminating film that is loaded. Then people will just have to wrap film around the rollers again. The best way to go about this is to use a scouring pad, which there should be plenty of at any school. Scouring pads are the green scratchy strips you see on double-sided sponges for cleaning tough stains with. Again, it’s best to do this when the rollers are still hot, because otherwise the residue will get stuck to the rollers of the laminating machine more permanently.

One way to make sure all the areas of the roller are clean is to use the motor of the laminator to advance the rollers as needed. All of the residue from the silicon rollers must be removed; any leftovers will slow down the machine in the future. As soon as the rollers are completely clean, though, the machine will be ready to load film again. As frustrating as it may seem at first, a little patience will have the machine ready to go in no time.
Cleaning a laminator with film wrapped around the rollers is not something anyone wants to do, and it can be a bit time-consuming. New rollers for most school laminating machines cost at least $300, though, so there is definitely incentive for cleaning them off and keeping them in good working order instead of having to purchase new ones. As soon as the cleaning is finished, just make sure that anyone using the machine in the future knows how to properly load the laminator, so it doesn’t get wrapped up again. This is one on-the-job headache that school employees should definitely b able to avoid.
