The Monk is a martial artist, a powerful job with distinct strengths and weaknesses. Monks prefer to fight using the unarmed combat skill - they concentrate on using their hands and feet to overcome their enemies. Where the warrior is a more defensive melee combatant (using shields and weapon parrying), the Monk is an offensive melee combatant, specializing in dishing out large amounts of quick melee damage. Monks do more melee damage than any other class. But in comparison to the warrior they could not manage to receive much damage compared to dishing them out.

Monks begin their life with the 'martial arts' skill. This allows them to attack faster if they are not using a weapon (or if they are using a weapon that uses the 'hand to hand' skill). At lower levels, this means that they attack faster then other jobs, which makes them faster to level.

Monks have decent defensive skills - in addition to their good evasion abilities, they can use parry (allowing them to parry attacks with their weapon) when they use a weapon (though most Monks do not use weapons).

Monks can solo (fight by themselves) very effectively at lower levels, but as they enter the mid-levels, they will need to join groups. Monks don't have healing abilities which makes it difficult for them in mid levels. Partying is essential and having a white mage around in important. It won't be difficult to find one to party with for they too would need tanks.

Here are some good races for a monk: galka and the elvaan who have high HP, VIT and STR, but the mithra are also good having a DEX of 9. The hume most of the time fits for every job for they are very versatile skill wise.

The active abilities of the monk start with hundred fists at level 1 which boosts attack speed. Level 5 gives the monk the accumulate ability which lets him stack his power to be able to deal great damage at a later time. At level 15, the monk receives evasion which increase the evade statistic. The concentrate skill is acquired at level 25 and increase attack accuracy. Also at level 25 is the chakra skill which lets the monk heal himself. At level 40, the monk receives an energy projectile which can be used to deal heavy damage to an enemy. Lastly at Level 45, the alarm skill is acquired which increase the chance of a counter-attack from the Monk but decreases the evasion stat.

The Monk's passive abilities which are always active start with counter at level 10 which increase the chance for a counter attack. They get HP boost at levels 15, 35, and 55 which increase their maximum health. They also receive martial arts ability at levels 25, 45, and 60 which increase their hand to hand combat skill.
