Learn all about St. Thomas or other USVI's magnificent natural habitat has to offer. Nature and wildlife, and its protection from overgrowth and a healthy habit of uncensored USVI real estate is as much a part of the Caribbean culture here as the historic sugar cane plantations and mansions that grace its various islands.

This piece of historic Caribbean culture is preserved by the St. Croix Environment Association (the SEA). Its members commit themselves to preserving and conserving the natural wonders of the island. The SEA delivers lectures and workshops, sponsors field trips and publishes free articles on St. Croix's Salt River Bay.On St. Croix, Buck Island is one of the most popular of the natural Caribbean wonders. Rainbow Beach and Cane Bay are the two most popular beaches on St. Croix. The spot where Christopher Columbus harbored his boats in 1493 is a favorite as well. This Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve is not only significant historically but gorgeous in a very pristine way.

The finest way to see the splendor of the natural real estate of St. Croix is to bike or ride horseback to the west end. Whether you are a novice rider or an expert, there is a guided tour just for you.The most popular non-water sport on St. Croix is definitely golf. Famous golf course architect and designer Bob Joyce created the magnificent Buccaneer Resort 18 hold part 70 golf course. On its grounds you can view the panoramic and glorious vistas of the Christiansted harbor on the west, Buck Island National Park on the east, and both St. John and St. Thomas islands on the north.

The Carambola course hosts the LPGA golf tournament each year. Golf Magazine has awarded this St. Croix sporting spot its coveted gold medal. Teague Bay is the home of another great golfing spot, the Reef Golf Course. Here you can play nine holes.Other parts of the island are preserved with the help of the SEA as well. Thanks to an anonymous donor the organization now owns 60 acres at the east end of St. Croix. Known as Southgate, the land is a prime bird and sea turtle nesting habitat. The sea turtles are endangered and the locals welcome this protection for them. Here at Southgate 96 different bird species have been sited, 26 of which are either endangered or at least threatened.

Some other group tasked with the preservation of natural wildlife and the Caribbean culture is the membership of the Hawksbill Sea Turtle Research Program of Buck Island Reef. Its study of the environmental sciences of the communities on the island includes the study of the survival of the endangered sea turtle. The study has been ongoing since 1988, and looks at the way the sea turtle migrate after their nesting season. These volunteer community members and noted scientists and researchers are working to develop a method of determining the gender of each sea turtle hatchling without threaten its survival.
