Throughout history there is a huge variety of methods and mechanisms people have used to slide down mountains. So it is very hard to pinpoint who exactly made the first snowboard and when the history of snowboarding really first began.

Snowboarding has only recently become a popular sport with its grass roots originating from surfers and skateboarders who dreamed of surfing on the snow, and it appears that the snowboarding revolution came from this group of people in the 1960's. Just 40 years since its conception and it was a recognized Olympic sport and one of the most popular Winter sports to date.

Whistler Blackcomb mountain offers over 8000 acres of excellent terrain making it one of the largest ski resorts in North America an even one of the biggest in the world. It is consistently voted the number one resort in North America for its immense amount of terrain suitable for boarding and skiing, state of the art terrain parks, mild temperatures due to the proximity to the ocean, and backcountry access. The mountain offers a multitude of options to keep everybody happy from first time beginners to expert backcountry boarders.

Located in the Canadian Rockies Whistler Blackcomb lies two hours north of Vancouver and consistently receive an annual average snowfall of 914cm. Being in such close proximity to the ocean Whistler Blackcomb also offers some of the mildest winter alpine temperatures to board in. Forget boarding in below -15 Celsius like the rest of Canada's ski resorts, at Whistler Blackcomb the alpine temperatures average just -5 Celsius. This makes for some very comfortable boarding conditions and also makes it unique amongst the world's resorts.

Whistler mountains suitable skiing area is 1530 meters (5020 feet) from the pique of 2182 meters (7160 feet). There is over 4500 acres of suitable terrain making sure you always have a new run to discover no matter how long you are here for.

Also residing on Whistler mountain is the Whistler Pipe and Chipmunk Rail Park for beginner/intermediate freestyle boarders. The pipe has relatively low walls making it a good way to start your freestyle learning experience. The park is divided into an easy beginner's side and a side for intermediate advanced boarders. Expect to see some relatively easy low rails and big boxes in the beginner's park making it easy to get started without having to hit those intimidating big ones in the advanced parks.

Access the 16 lifts via either the Village or Creekside gondola and make your way to the pique to ride the longest run of 11km (7miles) back down to the village. After a few of these giant runs the legs should be burning enough to warrant a rest and some food in one of the eight mountain restaurants.

When it comes to skiing and riding, Whistler Blackcomb has fantastic variety for an array of abilities from first timers to experienced pros. Choose from steeps, deeps, chutes, high alpine bowls, glades, superb corduroy, long cruisers, and gentle rollers. Riders and skiers will revel in the Parks and Pipes on both mountains plus natural launch pads, hits, wind-lips, cornices, cliff drops, and ridges - the place is like a huge, natural terrain park!

Whistler Blackcomb is undoubtedly an incredible experience, whether you are here for 4 days or 4 months and thankfully there is a great selection of property for however long you stay ensuring that your visit to Whistler is a memorable one.
