The History Of Raleigh North Carolina

The capital of North Carolina is Raleigh and more than 365,000 people call it home. There are plenty of trees to be found in this beautiful part of the world. Most of them are oaks and pines. Since 1782 it has been the county seat in addition to being the state capital. In fact, the entire city of Raleigh was designed for the sole purpose of meeting the political needs of the legislators.

One of the most historical events to take place in Raleigh occurred in 1865 when General Johnston of the confederate army was forced to surrender 90,000 troops in the area. Even with such events taking place in the area, Raleigh was not destroyed during the Civil War. As a result, there are numerous memorials and historical markers around the city.

The city of Raleigh didn't grow much at all over the decades but that all changed when IBM came into the area in the early 1960's. This played a vital role in Raleigh becoming a prosperous business area from that point on. It continues to be the home of various businesses that are quite successful today.

As a result, Raleigh now consists of five distinct areas known as North, South, East, West, and Old Raleigh. There are numerous industrial plants in the area as well as one of the major shopping areas in the entire state of North Carolina.

Luckily, due to the detailed planning that went into developing Raleigh, the growth that the city has experienced was nothing it couldn't handle. People traveling through Raleigh are very happy with they way the roads are designed and they can easily access the various areas of the city.

If you have never been to Raleigh, North Carolina you will find it to be a delightful city. There are plenty of great adventures to be found in this part of the world. The culture is well developed and there are plenty of sites to see. You will love the open areas and the abundance of oak trees that are found there.

For those interested in moving to Raleigh, there are plenty of great jobs to be found. The cost of living is very moderate so you don't have to worry too much about being able to afford living there. It also have a very low record of serious crimes so you should feel safe to live in this area as well.
