Crime and detective shows began their first round of popularity during the 1970's when programs like Hawaii Five O and Rockford Files were broadcast. These types of shows only escalated during the following years. Cagney and Lacey, Quincy, and many others had their time in the spotlight.

Our fascination with crime and detective shows has not diminished at all over the years. In fact some of the most watched shows on television today are crime related in some way. With all the real life advancements in forensic technologies, if anything they have taken on even more interesting twists.

The crime shows that we watch now are have much more in depth stories and the amount of things a person can actually learn while viewing is incredible. Investigating the crime scenes its self is a major part of the shows story line. They tell about how even the smallest particles can make or break a case.

One of the most popular series of shows is CSI, CSI Miami, and CSI New York. These shows use basically the same type scenarios, but they are all cast with different people in them. You might think that some would be overwhelmed by so many crime scene shows, but apparently not. They all still have good ratings.

Without a Trace, is a detective show that deals with missing people stories and sometimes they are found alive and sometimes not. It shows that in many missing people cases, the first 48 hours can be crucial as to whether or not a missing person is ever found.

In the hit detective series Cold Case, the cast of characters are made to deal with murder investigations from the past that were never solved. They must reopen these cases and try to use new technologies and information to solve them. They often show the dead characters moving on after their case has been solved. This show goes back and forth to different time periods and it makes for interesting stories.

All of the before mentioned crime shows are on network channels. There are many more of these kinds of shows that come on satellite and cable channels too. You can see many of the network shows like CSI in reruns on cable or satellite already.

If you really love the crime dramas series, then you should check out some of these as well. The Closer, Bones, Close to Home, Crossing Jordan, and Criminal Minds are all great programs too.
