When we were in school we were taught the things about our planet and universe that was the knowledge at that time. With the sciences and technology that are available now, there seems to be new discoveries made almost everyday about these things.

We have only recently found out that the ninth planet in our solar system, Pluto, is now not believed to be a planet at all.

Information as this and so much more can be learned from the Discovery Channel, the Science Channel, and on PBS stations. They have different shows all the time concerning not just our own planet but others as well.

Many of these shows deal with things like our volcanoes, our weather, global warming and all the things that can be disastrous for the human race and Earth. You can view the channels programs like these are on using satellite or cable.

Recent and current programs that can be watched on these channels are about the planet Mars. Many of us are fascinated with Mars because it is the planet closest to us and the possibility that there once could have been some form of life there is intriguing to say the least.

Some scientists believe that there could still be life on Mars in the form or micro organisms. Some think that Mars could also have frozen water.

From the amazing images that have been sent back to Earth from probes that have been sent to Mars, including The Mariner that was sent to take satellite images in the 1960's and later the Viking 1 and 2, that actually landed on Mars and sent back images, we were able to see the planet's surface up close and personal for the first time.

The most recent of out exploration of Mars, The Mars Global Surveyor, transmitted images back for four times longer than scientists expected before it finally shut down in 2006.

Though Mars is one of the most interesting topics discussed in these documentaries about space and our planet, there are shows that deal with more distant planets, asteroids, comets, black holes, dying stars, and the entire huge universe. The recent discoveries that have been made about our universe are amazing and seemingly unending.

The television programming that is available to us today through satellite and cable is a science lover's dream. You can watch something new, informative, and interesting everyday and still have more to see tomorrow. It is like having the most up to date space probe results and scientific research available everyday in our own living room..
