Designers and homemakers alike know what Victorian art is all about. This refers of course to the style employed in designing homes and other establishments during the height of the Industrial Revolution. It was during these times that design influences from around the world came pouring into the United Kingdom. The result of this is a collage of designs from different parts of the world.

As the nations of the world become closer to each other in terms of inter-nation relationship during that time, there have been a heavy flow of goods from countries in Asia into the United Kingdom. During that era, interior decorations, furniture, and fixtures were exported to the United Kingdom. This influx of items from the Middle East and the rest of Asia allowed the English to mix and match different styles. The resulting style has been called Victorian from then on.

During that time, homes are designed with order in mind. This means that a house is cleanly divided into rooms. It is also the characteristic of a Victorian home to have the public and private space separated. It was also during those times that the parlor became popular. A parlor is a space in the home where homeowners receive their guests.

As hosts would like to share flaunt their tastes, the parlor is more often than not covered with different decors from other parts of the world. But while it is full of decors, it should be noted that they are displayed in an orderly manner thus a room will not look cluttered. The dining room is the second most important place in a home during those times. The dining room back then featured a sideboard which is always ornately decorated.

When it comes to furniture, there is no single dominant style in the Victorian era. The reason for this is that designers used different styles from the past. Although no single style stood out during that era, the Gothic and Rococo styles were very popular.

Today, a lot of homeowners are striving to get that Victorian feel to their abode. With the characteristic of the style being easily copied, many homemakers favor the Victorian collection. Today though, it is harder to find homes with a dedicated parlor designed as ornately as they were back in the Victorian era. Designers of today also benefit from the availability of different fixtures and furniture like pendant lights which can be used to adorn a home in the style of the Victorian times.
