So many things can come from someone's heart. The heart as the number one symbol for love has endured through ages. Similar images of the heart as a love symbol can be found as far back as Egyptian times, and some tribes in Africa, but the most known sources of the heart history is through Christianity.

The Catholic religion believes that the symbol of the heart began when Saint Margaret Marie Alacoque had a vision of a heart shape surrounded by thorns in the late 17th century. In an even earlier time the heart shape had been placed in stained glass windows and cloister decorations. The heart shape in Christianity represents Christ and his soul.

The heart symbol gained it most recent popularity during the Victorian period. The heart locket was worn by many women to keep their small treasures in. Photographs and locks of hair of loved ones could be found inside. During the following years hearts were being used in all kinds of jewelry pieces.

Pendants, rings, and charms for bracelets. Today they are one of the most popular items to give as gifts. Antique and vintage heart jewelry is very collectible and there is a lot of it around in all kinds of qualities and price ranges.

Valentine's Day alone is when the absolute most heart jewelry is given by people. Everyone gives it and everyone gets it. Hearts set with gemstones are a huge seller, especially those that are set with diamond, rubies, or both. Diamond heart pendants are given to almost any woman by almost any man.

Father's give them to daughters and husbands give them to wives. The heart diamond ring is often a choice for an engagement ring and Valentine's Day is one of the most popular days to get it on. A little gold heart ring or pendant is often a boy's first gift to his girlfriend and a piece of heart jewelry from a boy is probably the most wonderful gift a young girl can receive.

When there is a girl in your life and you need to give them a piece of jewelry that absolutely represents the love that you have for them, give them a heart.

There are literally thousands and thousands of pieces of heart jewelry available on the internet and it could be hard to choose just one. Whatever the piece of heart jewelry you give her, she will always treasure it no matter how big or small the heart is.
