How America Is Affecting The UK Housing Market

Financial experts are worried that the current situation with the US economy could have a big impact on the UK. There are fears that a recession in America could see the UK facing its weakest growth period since the Exchange Rate Mechanism crisis which happened 16 years ago.

The effects of this are already becoming evident to first time home buyers who cannot get mortgages because approval rates are lower than they have been for over a decade.

It is no secret that first time buyers have always struggled to get on to the property ladder due to how expensive houses are. However, recent developments have made it near enough impossible which means that people in this position have had to make alternative arrangements.

This has meant that thousands of people have had to make alternative arrangements such as to rent instead of buy, get loft conversions instead of moving to a bigger home and to delay any plans to move because they simply cannot afford it.

One of the biggest effects this has had on the UK is that it has become difficult to get approved for mortgages, especially for first time buyers. Several of the UKs major banks and building societies have cut their maximum lending amounts and some have even gone as far as increasing the prices on tracker mortgages. This has made it virtually impossible for those just starting out on the property ladder because not only are there fewer products available but the interest rates on them are much higher.

These changes have meant that people have had no choice but to either put their plans on hold or come up with other arrangements. Whereas this no doubt means that some have to make significant changes, there are several options available to those who already have homes. Loft conversions are becoming increasingly popular because they can significantly increase the size of a house. The majority of people move home because they need somewhere bigger so whereas moving might not be an option at the moment, loft conversions are a great way of adding much needed extra space.

Many businesses such as those who do loft conversions are finding that they are already unusually busy for this time of year. Just as people have been predicting the managing directors of these companies suspect that this is down to the current mortgage and housing situation.
Author Resource:- Econoloft is the leading UK loft conversions. Converting your loft is one of the cheapest, easiest and efficient methods of renovating your house to increase the living space in your house.
